As long as you have an Airtel line and are a Nigerian, linking your NIN is a requirement. The NCC mandated months ago that all Airtel users link their SIM cards to their individual National Identification Numbers. We have taken our time to thoroughly explain how to connect NIN to your Airtel line in Nigeria in this article.
NIN stands for National Identification Number, for those of you who are unfamiliar. Only when you register for a National Identity Card in Nigeria do you receive this exclusive 11-digit number.

How to link NIN to your Airtel Line or SIM in Nigeria
There are three distinct ways to link your National Identification Number to your Airtel line. You can link via the NIMC MobileID App, the Airtel NIN Code, or the Airtel NIN Portal. Below are thorough explanations of each of these three techniques.
Method 1: Link via Airtel NIN Code
Airtel NIN Code for linking is *121*1# and it only works for Airtel lines. If you already have your NIN, follow the steps below to link it.
- Dial *121*1# to link your National Identification Number (NIN) on Airtel. Afterward, you’ll be automatically redirected to the portal to enter your NIN, and immediately insert your NIN to complete registration.
Method 2: Link via Airtel NIN Portal
- Visit airtel.com.ng/nin/
- Then input your Airtel number, be it Mobile Number, MiFi, Router or ODU
- Then click on proceed then confirm the OTP code
- Now insert your National Identification Number and finish it up.
Method 3: Link via NIMC MobileID App
If you’ve attempted the ways above but weren’t successful, another option is to use the NIMC MobileID App. However, in order to use this method and receive an OTP for installing the Mobile ID app, you must have your National Identification Number (NIN), which was issued by the National Identity Management Commission or one of its accredited agents, and a mobile number that you used when you registered for the NIN.
